The college had its beginning in the year 1976 and grew into a pioneer institution of the town. After nourishing the institution for many years the founder Secretary and Correspondent Sri Daita Madhusudana Sastry and the founder president and the freedom fighter Kasinadhuni Poorna Mallikarjunudu handed over the reigns to the present secretary and correspondent Sri D. Ramachandra Sastry and president Sri B. Dhantaracharya. Under their enthusiastic able administrative guidance, assistance and encouragement, the academic fibre committee also help the smooth running of the institution by rendering dedicated and selfless service.
When this institution was started there was no separate degree college for women in the near by towns. The management deemed it an acute necessity to have a college. catering solely for girl students. Keeping this in view, the former secretary and Correspondent of The Hindu College, Machilipatnam sowed the seed of Shree Padmavathi Mahila Kalasala. Since then, the college has been incessantly spreading the light of education to many girl students drawn from surrounding rural areas, who are earlier deprived of this.
SPMH strives to achieve global identity through its innovative methods and strenuous efforts for the betterment of the student community. It is equipped with sophisticated laboratories, modern multimedia, Advanced English Communication skills laboratory with latest software. It has a library having 9,000 volumes. It also subscribes to many Indian journals in various fields. It also houses Digital Library.
The college is registered under Hindu High and Branch Schools Society, as per the society registration act 1860.
The architect of the first flag of pre-independent India, Pingali Venkaiah hailed from Machilipatnam Dr.Pattabhi Sita Ramaiah , the founder of the Andhra Bank, was also the son of this soil. Many freedom fighters had their roots in this coastal town.
Machilipatnam is a semi-urban area situated in Krishna District, 70KM away from Vijayawada. It is the district head quarters and has always been a hub of educational activity since per independence days. It is also a historical important place with port that attracted British, French, Portuguese and Dutch traders in the pre-independent era.
The principle Smt. A. Krishna Priya, Head of the Department of Commerce, took the charge in 1997. Under her dynamic leadership, the teaching staff, administrative staff and the students are being motivated to reach new heights. She is a multifaceted personality, who has introduced many innovative ideas and implemented them effectively.
Since its inspection, the academic performance graph of the college is always on the ascendancy. The college is standing town first with regard to pass percentage of the university degree examinations at the end of final year. For this achievement, the rolling shield instituted by the City Teacher’s Association of Machilipatnam has remained with the college more than 20 years, without any break. Students of this institution are also the recipients of prestigious Acharya Nagarjuna University gold medals for standing University first in various subjects.
Besides academic achievements, the college is also having a good track record of achievements in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities like NSS, NCC, Janma Bhoomi, Games, Sports, Literary and cultural activities. The students are bringing laurels to the institution in many events of participating S.P.M.H Kalasala, Machilipatnam, is having richly talented past and present faculty in its rolls. The teaching staff always strives hard to update its skills and knowledge and imparts the same to the students.
